Marine Immersion certification increases application flexibility for AccurioLabel 190 users

Konica Minolta has announced that its AccurioLabel 190 digital label press has been successfully certified as compliant with BS (British Standard) 5609 – the internationally recognized standard forprinted pressure-sensitive, adhesive-coated labels for marine use.AccurioLabel 190 users can now supply self-adhesive labels for goods due for marine shipment.

The Marine Immersion certification has been awarded specifically for the combination of Konica Minolta’s digital presses with media supplier Avery Dennison’s AA449 Lasercopy PET Matt White S4700 INC – HF100 label stock. The BS 5609 standard requires testing of base label materials as well as print permanence on that label material in harsh marine and weather conditions. Printed labels must be able to survive and be legible after three months exposure in saltwater, and must withstand tests for abrasion resistance.

Compliance with BS 5609 is a pre-requisite for self-adhesive drum labels to meet Merchant Shipping Regulations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) and the Globally Harmonized System of Classification (GHS) Standards. It ensures that, should an oil or chemical drum be lost at sea during ocean transportation, the key identifiers of the barrel remain legible for long periods.

The Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 190 digital label press is an innovative and highly cost-effective machine for printing high quality labels at fast speeds. It prints onto continuous rolls of media, meaning long print runs can be handled quickly, and has unique toner technology that delivers good lightfastness, excellent colour gamut and a high lustre finish.

As well as the AccurioLabel 190, two other Konica Minolta digital presses have also been certified for BS 5609 with the Avery Dennison AA449 Lasercopy media. These are the Konica Minolta AccurioPress C6100 and C3080 production printers.
